Happy feet...

What a fabulous running week! Got in around 33 miles which certainly is not that bigga'deal. BUUUUTT, doing it with very little foot pain IS a big deal...BIG DEAL!!! [More so for my mother and wife than anyone else ;-)] So, anyway, thanks to some really encouraging folks and focusing on my running form, I'm very excited about training for this 50MILER. Now, i need to get focused on some other details like diet and crosstraining. Also, must get my weekly and long run mileage up quickly, but in a manner that keeps me healthy. Balance balance balance. Good news...this is lots of fun! see y'all soon...jkrunnin'

Run on....

Many of you know that I got my feelings hurt (and yes I sulked about it for a while) last weekend in Memphis. I suffered the dreaded finish of "DNF" (Did Not Finish, for my non-running friends) at the St. Jude Marathon. I called it quits at 18 because a foot injury had me down to a shuffle and i was looking at another hour and forty-five minutes (or so) on it. So, when the marshall asked "Sir, are you okay?", i responded, "i probably should get a lift back to the stadium". CRUSHING!

I finally made it back to my own car and immediately starting looking for reassurance that I was not going to die a slow death sitting there on Union Ave. Thanks to Jonathan Stewart and Gary Johnson, I was able to convince myself that I would, in fact, survive. Thanks guys!

Well, there's now a much (MUCH!) larger concern occupying my brain. A 50 miler I signed up for back when I was feeling good physically and mentally. It's set for March 3. Let's do the math folks...5 days ago I bailed at 18 miles. In 86(ish) days, I'll call on my mind and body to go 50 miles...for the first time...on trails...for the first time. Thanks to friends and my sweet wife, I'm getting out of my head about it. Also, huge thanks to Joshua Holmes (ultra running freak...check him out at www.runitfast.com) whom I plan to absolutely drive nuts while I'm on the journey.

Should be fun, I'll keep you posted.

Running pains...

A few weeks ago, i ran my not-so-scheduled 17 miler. Let me tell you that it was no usual run. There were coyotes, lots of deer, a strange man stopping to ask for directions (twice) and plenty of pain in my legs. It was just one of those mornings that i thought would never ever end. At the end i was like "can i even count that as a run? it was more like a trip to a really strange outdoor mall." Anyway, I haven't done much more than a 10 miler since then and looks like i am supposed to go 26.2 in about 4 weeks.

My left foot is killing me and it feels like someone is running a fingernail file over my IT band every time i run. Saw the doc today and, much to my giddy surprise, he didn't tell me to sit out for a bit or take a few weeks off. Though, he did use the word "moderation". I don't have time (or discipline) for moderation. I got educate my body to serious pain...and i mean right quick.

if you have any words of wisdom, lay 'em on me. Otherwise, I'll see you out there.

Gotta keep movin'

I'm writing but should be running. In fact, I should be running rather than most all of the other stuff I do. December is just around the corner and I am waaaaaay behind on my mileage. It's time to get it in gear...sleep is for the birds (and bears). How much sleep is enough?

Finally...

Whelp...I finally secured my iPad2 (thanks to my law partner Brandon McWherter). I am working on a new post about my trip to Memphis this past week. We spent about 36 hours exploring some civil rights history, including the National Civil rights Museum. Stay tuned...

WARNING: not suitable for some audiences...

This story will make some of you cry, some will scream, some will laugh and others will just roll your eyes. It truly is a pitiful tale.

So, I have been looking forward to getting a certain electronic tablet for some time. Because I don't get paid royalties by the company, the name of this product will remain unmentioned (i'm iSure that iMost of you can iGuess which iOne i am referring iTo). Anywho...I roll over to Best Buy at about 10mins to close on Friday night. I find a very polite sales rep and this conversation follows:

Me: Do you have any (aforementioned unnamed electronic tablets) left?
Her: Which one do you want?
Me: 32 - 3G AT&T. (Noooo...I didn't actually say "dash")
Her: OH YAY!! THIS IS THE LAST ONE!!!
Me: Nice...I'll take that one.
Her: Okay, but I have to walk it up front for you.
Me: (Thinking in my head "that's just a stupid rule and procedure") Okay, makes sense...I completely understand.
INSERT very awkward walk to front
Her: Okay, there you go...(name of cashier) will take care of you.
Me: Thanks for all your help!

Sounds good so far huh? Wait, it gets even better.

When I get home I'm, naturally, experiencing some uncontainable emotions. I spend the next four hours playing, downloading, app'ing and enjoying the general warm and fuzzy sensations. And then, without warning, it happens. I see one terrible word displayed in the top left corner of this machine "Verizon". My heart sank. My eyes blurred. The back of my neck seemed to be on fire. Everything went red and then faded to black.

When I came to, my fears were confirmed. So, sync...restore...re-box...Return...pray. Nope. No such luck. "Sorry...we don't have any AT&Ts."

The shortest period of iProduct ownership ever. For now, "3-4 weeks" is unacceptable. Let the hunt begin.

Stuff of Kings and Queens...

"Shhh Will, Kings don't talk. They just walk like this.
And, Queens walk the same way...just prettier."
